Young Organists - here's an exciting new opportunity!!!

If you are an organist or organ student aged between 17 - 25, Orgelfest Academy is for you! A programme for young organists, Orgelfest Academy is offered along with Orgelfest 2013 at a special all-inclusive rate of $175 before the Early-Bird date of May 15, 2013, and $200 thereafter.

As well as attending the organ and choral concerts and recitals of Orgelfest 2013, you'll have the opportunity to take part in a combination of private organ lessons, group lessons, a master class, and a final informal recital. You'll be given practice time at a convenient Ottawa pipe organ. At the end of the week, there'll be one or two mini-recitals in which you'll be encouraged to play. You may request to take up to two private organ lessons during the week, as well as taking part in other group activities; if you wish private lessons, you must register by July 15, 2013. Please register early, as there will be a set limit to the total number of private lessons which can be offered.

For private lessons, we suggest that you focus on one or two of the following:
  • Bach repertoire
  • French Classical repertoire
  • French Romantic repertoire
  • Modern French repertoire
  • English repertoire
  • Improvisation
  • Hymn-playing and Service-playing

The costs of the teachers, who will be well-known Canadian organists, will be covered by your registration fees. Teaching will be available in both English and French. Orgelfest Academy will try to meet all your requests, but depending on the number of requests, you may not be able to study with your first choice of teacher. Dr. Giles Bryant has agreed to give a master-class on Choral Conducting.

Because Orgelfest Academy takes place during Orgelfest 2013, the RCCO National Convention, registration gives you free access to recitals by Angela Hewitt (playing Bach's The Art of Fugue), Christian Lane (the winner of the 2011 Canadian International Organ Competition), Thomas Annand, Rachel Laurin, and other events, including choral concerts. In addition, you'll be offered opportunities to meet some of the artists, and you'll also be encouraged to observe the National Organ-Playing Competition, and to meet the candidates. All this presents you with a unique opportunity to broaden your musical horizons, hearing a wide range of music, while simultaneously being immersed in organ repertoire.

Accommodation, to be paid for separately, will be available in a university residence, either Carleton University or the University of Ottawa, as well as at the Orgelfest hotel.

Please register for Orgelfest Academy using the regular registration form for Orgelfest 2013 (the Registration Form will be available in the fall of 2012); following your registration, you will be contacted individually by e-mail to make sure that your needs will be met at Orgelfest Academy.

For further information, please contact or phone 613-726-7984. (Eastern Time Zone)

Playing the organ can be a solitary sort of experience, but at Orgelfest Academy, you'll find friends with the same interest in an informal, non-competitive environment. Come and join us!
