MEMBERS' RECITAL

Rideau Park United Church
2203 Alta Vista Drive (at Cunningham Ave)
Sunday October 14, 2012
3:30 pm

Refreshments and a sale of music beginning at 2.30 pm

The Ottawa Centre, RCCO, wishes to raise funds to help with the additional costs involved with our hosting of the RCCO National Convention, Orgelfest 2013, in August 2013.

With this in mind, the Centre will offer a Members' Recital at 3.30 pm on October 14 in Rideau Park United Church. A highly-varied repertoire will be played by a number of Centre members, including Rachel Laurin, Kirk Adsett, Dianne Ferguson, Robert Jones, Alexander Reicker, Mervyn Games, Gordon Johnston, and others. Instead of charging admission, we will welcome donations at the door, and all proceeds will be used to help with the costs of the National Convention which will take place from August 11 - 15, 2013!

In addition, there will be a sale (by donation) of organ music and CD's from many members' libraries, beginning at 2.30 pm inside the side door of Rideau Park Church. And look for the first appearance of our Orgelfest 2013 logo, printed on Orgelfest Tote Bags specially enhanced and lined for extra wear by Mai-yu Chan. All proceeds from the donations for music and CD's and Tote Bags will be given to help the costs of Orgelfest 2013, our own National Convention!

Be sure to come and hear an excellent and enjoyable recital, while helping to support our National Convention! There is plenty of parking.

RCCO PUB NIGHT SOCIAL

Heart and Crown
67 Clarence St (Byward Market)
Wednesday May 15, 2013
6:00 pm

Come for a traditional pub dinner with a pint of your favorite brew (or soft drink or even tea if you prefer) and watch some great organ DVDs, YouTube videos of organs, organists, good music and bad music...all in the comfort of a private dining room with audio-visual facilities away from the hustle and bustle of the hockey down the hall.

We have the Black Rose room to ourselves to socialize and have refreshments and a pub meal. Bring your favourite DVDs and we will show them on the large screen. If you have a favourite YouTube site related to Organs/Organists/Churches, etc., email it to me at Donald Marjerrison and we can show it as well.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

St Paul's Presbyterian Church
971 Woodroffe (just North of the Queesnway)
Monday June 17
Time: 7:00 pm refreshments
7:30 meeting

This is your centre. The executive values the feedback received from members. Come out and voice your opinions on what you would like to have your Centre do.

The Annual General Meeting of the Ottawa Centre is our opportunity to conduct the necessary business of the College but also to celebrate the year past and look forward to the coming year. All members are encouraged to attend and participate in decision making and to hear reports of the various convenors and national council representatives. We will honour Bob Jones as our Member of the Year.

We will also hear some more exciting news about our convention "Orgelfest 2013" to be held in August 2013. One feature of Orgelfest 2013 is the hymn writing competition. There were 49 entries, which a panel of judges has narrowed down to 6. We will sing the six top entries at the AGM and then the judges will choose the top 3 from our feedback. The top hymn will be sung at the College Service on August 12.

There is plenty of parking and the room is air-conditioned.

ForScore App Workshop

Gordon Johnston
St John's Anglican Church
Elgin St
Sunday June 23
Time: 2:00 pm

The Ottawa Centre presents a look at "ForScore", an iPad app that will help organize your Sunday service music, or for that matter, music you play at a concert!

Gordon Johnston will show you how to eliminate bulky hymn books and pages and pages of music! This app will be used by Angela Hewitt at her recital in August during Orgelfest. Come and see how it works!

Gordon Johnston, long-time user of this app, will lead this workshop.

He writes: "ForScore is an app that allows the user to store and organize music on an iPad. We will look at the process of preparing music for entry into ForScore (making PDFs from printed music), and importing music into ForScore via iTunes or Dropbox. We will also create "setlists" as one might do to organize the music for a church service. Finally, we'll take a look at hands-free page turning using a Bluetooth AirTurn."
