COVID-19 virus and the RCCO - Ottawa Centre

Please check each event listing to see the COVID protocols in place for that event. We will follow the advice of Ottawa's Medical Officer and follow the procedures required by the various venues. We will try to have any protocols posted a week in advance.

Greetings for the New Year!

As our lives have changed over the past few years, we are looking forward to gathering for in-person sessions on subjects that are important to all of us as musicians and active listeners. We will be learning and relearning how to support the organ technician and his work, hearing a wonderful mini-recital and re-engaging with some of our colleagues, hearing a stunning recital of César Franck, and participating in the Great Bach Marathon. Let's keep learning!

Joyous music making to all for this coming months!

Ian Guenette and Sondra Goldsmith Proctor

CHRISTMAS IN NOVEMBER

Trinity Anglican Church
1230 Bank Street

Saturday November 5, 2022
3:30 pm
Host Musician: Fabien Tousignant

You are invited to prepare an organ work useful for a prelude or a postlude for the Season of Advent and Christmas to play for the gathered members of the RCCO Ottawa Centre at Trinity Anglican Church. This is not a performance but a sharing of literature. We all have repertoire to share with each other. Please plan to attend to talk with your colleagues, share the rich repertoire of the season and take a deep breath as we begin the busy season.

Our host, Fabien Tousignant, will perform a piece of the repertoire that he uses at Trinity Anglican Church. I have heard of several pieces that people are considering playing. Whatever you choose will be the correct piece. What would you play at the church you serve or the church that you used to serve? I promise to come prepared to play one of my favorite pieces to play at Christmastide.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at this event. At the conclusion of our musical sharing, we will have a few munchies and liquid refreshment to see us on the way home. There is plenty of street parking.

Basilique-cathédrale Notre-Dame
Sussex/St. Patrick
Please enter at the front door close to St. Patrick

Tuesday February 7, 2023

We have the pleasure of hearing Thomas Annand at Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Thomas is now the Interim Organist at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul in Montreal. His hour long recital will feature the works of César Franck (1822-1890). Here is a link to a video of Donald Russell discussing with Thomas Annand the characteristics of Franck’s works, some of the registration complexities, the beautiful melodic lines, and answering the questions that some of you, the membership, have when working on Franck’s compositions. As we complete the seasons of honoring César Franck’s 200th anniversary and begin the third century of learning and performing his works, please plan to join us for a delightful hour of César Franck’s creations.

We thank Jennifer Loveless for hosting this event.

2023 THE GREAT BACH MARATHON

Woodroffe United Church
207 Woodroffe Ave

Saturday, March 25, 2023
Note change of date
1:30 pm - 6:00 pm

1:30 - 3:30 pm Young People's Special Programming

Download the schedule of The Great Bach Marathon.

Think about not only compositions by J.S. Bach to play, but also, compositions by other composers who use the theme B-A-C-H. We will use these themes throughout the hours of the Marathon to demonstrate the wide respect that other composers have and had for Johann Sebastian Bach. As soon as you find one that you would like to play, please be in touch with Sondra Goldsmith Proctor to register your selection. If you play in an ensemble or with a soloist - instrumental or vocal - who would enjoy sharing Bach with our attendees, please invite the performers to join us and perform with you.

There will be two program tracks during this year's Marathon. Young people will have a separate session on construction of the OrgelKidsCan organ from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. The young people will be in a separate section of the church building experiencing the joy of discovering the organ. Each young person will have the opportunity to play the small organ by playing the piece that they have prepared on it. At the conclusion of this portion of the young people's program, they will be invited to the sanctuary to hear an organist perform on the Woodroffe United Church organ. The young people will then perform for the assembled attendees on the piano.

While the young people are learning and playing, adults will be in the sanctuary of the church listening to wonderful presentations stsrting at 1:30. The young people will join the adults at approximately 3:00pm to listen and perform. The young artists will be invited to listen to the remainder of the Marathon or go on with their very busy schedules.

We will again be joined by piano performers from the Ottawa Piano Festival. This event continues to be a Benefit for the Scholarship Fund for Beginning Organists. Come when you can; leave when you must.

Masks are not required at Woodroffe United Church. Everyone, please use your good judgment!

Here is a prliminary schedule of the Great Bach Marathon.
Here is a poster of the concert. Please print and display it to promote this event.
