NEW ORGAN AT St. BARTHOLOMEW'S

St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church
125 Mackay St
Saturday October 26, 2013
10:00 am - noon

This new installation by Les Orgues Létourneau was delivered in mid-August (actually, during Orgelfest 2013!) and installed and voiced during the following month. It was first used in services in mid-September. (An inaugural recital will be played by Matthew Larkin, Cathedral Organist, on Sunday October 20 at 3 pm.)

Our host for the October 26th occasion will be our member Barbara Hallam-Price, Director of Music at St. Bartholomew’s Church and a well-known Ottawa musician. We will all have a chance to play the new organ, and to admire the way the back of the church has been re-configured to contain the new instrument, which for the first time in many years allows a view of the West Window. We have all seen the artistic rendering of the new organ, along with its specification, on the back cover of the last few issues of Organ Canada - now we can see it in person! Join us at St. Bart’s on October 26th.

POTLUCK DINNER & ORGAN RECITAL

760 Somerset St W
(Corner of Bell St)
Sunday November 3, 2013
5:30 pm

We invite members and friends to share a potluck meal at St. Luke’s Anglican Church. Following the dinner, Robert Jones is giving an organ recital at 7:30 pm in the Church. Admission to the concert is by donation. If you are planning to attend the dinner, please notify Suzanne Marjerrison as to what you are bringing at 613-724-3793 , email: Donald Marjerrison.

There is free parking on the area streets.

Robert will be playing the following pieces:
Bach: Allabreve
Cabena: Excerpts from 10 Portraits
John McIntosh: Reesor’s Pieces
Vittoria: Ecce sacerdos magnus
Britten: Prelude and Fugue on a Theme of Vittoria
Denis Bedard: Variations on Sine Nomine
Franck: Final

Robert is hoping some RCCO members might want to form an ad hoc choir to sing the motet Ecce sacerdos magnus just before he plays the Britten Prelude and Fugue on a Theme of Vittoria (which is based on Ecce sacerdos magnus). The music is available from the Choral Public Domain Library: CPDL #26793 (edited by James Gibb). If you are interested in singing this motet, please contact Bob Jones). The singers could meet with Bob at 6:45 pm to rehearse.

As an added bonus, we will have a sale of used music and CDs.
